Deposit Limit
A player-set or operator-imposed maximum on how much can be deposited in a day, week, or month.
Also known as: Daily deposit limitSession limitDeposit cap
A deposit limit is a maximum amount a player can deposit at an operator within a defined period — daily, weekly, or monthly.
Two types
Player-set limits — the player configures a limit via the account settings. Regulated operators (UKGC, MGA, DGA, iGO) are required to offer this and are required to enforce it once set. Some jurisdictions require limits at account creation.
Operator-set limits — the operator caps a specific player’s deposits based on risk assessment, affordability check, or compliance flag. Players are informed but usually cannot override.
Setting a limit
- Reducing a limit is instant. Every regulated operator applies the new lower limit immediately.
- Increasing a limit has a cooling-off period. UKGC requires 24-hour delay; MGA typically 24-72 hours; iGO 7 days for large increases.
- Removing a limit requires similar cooling-off delay.
Why the cooling-off
Prevents impulse decisions in the middle of a losing session. If a limit could be raised instantly, its harm-reduction value drops to near-zero.
Combined with reality-check timers + self-exclusion
Deposit limits are one of the three primary responsible-gambling tools:
- Deposit limits — cap total money.
- Reality-check timers — cap session length.
- Self-exclusion / cool-off — full account block.
Layer all three for meaningful harm reduction. See our responsible gambling guide.
Cross-operator limits
At the moment, deposit limits are per operator, not cross-operator. Setting a €500/month limit at Casino A doesn’t affect Casino B. GAMSTOP (UK) is the exception — it blocks entirely, not just caps.
Some third-party tools (BetBlocker, bank-level gambling blocks) provide cross-operator coverage.
